Textile art is of great importance in the history and culture of Oaxaca. The architecture of the Textile Museum by Juan José Santibáñez does justice to this.
This project was created in the middle of the historic centre, carefully inserted into an existing building. In the museum’s inner courtyard is a double-skinned wall made of red, individually designed bricks. The bricks were handmade in the region. The strong colour of the bricks radiates a powerful atmosphere and gives the museum a distinctive character. The meeting of contemporary and historical architecture as well as picking up on the haptic quality and motifs of textile art is, in my view, perfect for this place.
