› 2012-2013, Project development of a competition submission during the internship at at Michael Meier und Marius Hug Architekten in Zurich.
› As part of my internship, I was in charge of a small competition for a public toilet facility in front of the Stadthaus in Zurich. I wrote the following competition brief:
«Despite its prominent location, a tiny house in the middle of the tree-lined avenue of Stadthausquai offers a sheltered, «quiet little place» for tourists and passers-by. In its modest colour scheme, the metallic dress of the ZüriWC appears appropriately discreet and embedded. A luminous ZüriWC sign on the front and back makes it easy to recognise from a distance. The materiality refers to the cast-iron railing that characterises Stadthausquai, as well as to the locksmith’s work of the Metropol Hotel opposite. In their appropriate elegance, historic public toilets in Zurich served as a point of reference. The gentle staggering of the metal panels is inspired by the historical building of the neighboring Frauenbad Stadthausquai, while the structured panel design with welded-on bars makes the façade look like a robe and achieves a depth effect through shading. A smooth, silk-gloss paint finish reinforces this impression. At the same time, the heaviness of the metal, as well as the anchoring by the concrete base, gives the appearance of durability. The sturdy metal plates prevent mechanical damage caused by external impact. If vandalism occurs, the metal plates can be unhooked, repaired and repainted.»
The project achieved first place and was completed in 2014. More pictures and information are available on the architects’ homepage.
