› 2020, Project development while working as an architect at Ignacio Urquiza Arquitectos.
› I experienced first-hand what Mexican building means in the office of IUA. For the project in Tonala, which I developed together with Ignacio Urquiza, I formulated the following project description, which can also be read on the IUA homepage:
«A car workshop in the Roma Sur neighborhood of Mexico City is transformed into a working space for artists, suitable for hosting exhibitions, and generating encounters and experiences with the community. The original structure of the industrial building, as well as the aesthetics of the existing building, are preserved and accentuated. The project is independent of the existing and is developed in its own architectural language, creating a clear contrast between the new and the old. Playful forms are introduced to achieve a flowing effect in the space. The project is characterized by simple geometries and a dynamic composition of a few pieces with specific programs: A configuration of different volumes, patios and autonomous walls are arranged in a scattered formation that allows all kinds of interactions and activities to occur in the resulting intermediate areas. The spaces vary in proportion, shape and lighting conditions, creating a highly flexible and adaptable project.»
To find a solution, we experimented a lot with variations. I captured the concept in playful collages.
More pictures and information are available on the architects’ homepage.
